Kualoa RanchA 4,000-acre private nature reserve on the windward coast — the 'Jurassic Valley' of a hundred films, explored by ATV, horseback, zipline, and movie-site tour
Kualoa Ranch is a 4,000-acre private nature reserve and working cattle ranch spread across three dramatic valleys on Oʻahu's windward coast at Kaʻaʻawa, about an hour from Waikīkī. Its centerpiece, Kaʻaʻawa Valley, is walled by the sheer green Koʻolau cliffs and has stood in for prehistoric jungle and far-off worlds in dozens of productions — Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Jumanji, 50 First Dates, and the series Lost among them. Today the ranch is one of the windward side's biggest activity hubs, offering guided ATV and UTV rides, horseback tours, ziplines, jungle expeditions, and a movie-sites bus tour through the filming locations.

The windward coast's Jurassic valleycliffs, cattle, and a hundred famous film frames.
Kualoa Ranch occupies 4,000 acres of windward Oʻahu, running from the shoreline at Kaʻaʻawa back into three valleys hemmed by the towering Koʻolau cliffs. It has been a working cattle ranch since 1850, on land with deep significance in Hawaiian history — Kualoa was a sacred place where high chiefs were raised. But to most visitors it's known for what gets filmed here. The flat floor of Kaʻaʻawa Valley, framed by those impossibly steep green walls, has been the backdrop for Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Jumanji, Godzilla, 50 First Dates, and the series Lost, among dozens of others — the famous fallen log Jurassic Park characters hide behind is still there, on the standard tour.
The ranch packages all of that into guided activities rather than free roaming. The Movie Sites & Ranch bus tour drives through the valley to the filming spots; the Raptor ATV and UTV tours and the horseback rides take you deeper across the land; ziplines run cables over the valley; and jungle and ocean expeditions reach the coastline and an ancient fishpond. Because it's an hour up the coast, most people make Kualoa a half-day and pair it with windward stops like the Byōdō-In Temple, Kāneʻohe Bay, or the beaches at Kualoa Regional Park across the highway, which looks out on the iconic cone islet of Mokoliʻi ('Chinaman's Hat'). Tours are timed and reservation-based, so book ahead.

A short loop through the exhibits, encounters, and shows that make this stop worth a half-day on its own.
Kaʻaʻawa 'Jurassic' Valley
The flat valley floor walled by sheer Koʻolau cliffs is the ranch's signature view and its most-filmed location. The fallen log from Jurassic Park still sits in the valley and is a stop on the movie-sites tour.
Movie Sites & Ranch tour
A guided bus tour through the valley to the spots where Jurassic Park, Kong: Skull Island, Jumanji, Godzilla, 50 First Dates, and Lost were filmed, with the stories behind each shoot.
ATV & UTV off-road tours
Guided Raptor side-by-side and ATV rides climb dirt tracks deep into the valleys for views you can't reach on the bus tour — one of the ranch's most popular activities.
Horseback trail rides
Guided horseback tours walk the floor of Kaʻaʻawa Valley beneath the cliffs, a slower way to take in the scenery that draws everyone from first-timers to experienced riders.
Ziplines over the valley
A multi-line zipline course strings cables across the valley and ridges, mixing the ranch's scenery with suspension bridges and ATV shuttles between platforms.
Mokoliʻi & the ancient fishpond
The ranch's coastal land includes a centuries-old Hawaiian fishpond and looks out on Mokoliʻi islet ('Chinaman's Hat') just offshore at Kualoa Regional Park across the highway — part of the ocean expeditions.
