The least-visited main Hawaiian island — Halawa Valley and Mooula Falls on the east end, the three-mile Papohaku Beach on the west, the Kalaupapa sea cliffs (the tallest in the world) on the north shore, and Kaunakakai, a plantation town with no stoplight and no high-rise.
Molokai runs from the lush, waterfall-cut east end at Halawa to the dry, dune-backed west end at Papohaku and Kaluakoi, with Kaunakakai and the airport town of Hoolehua in the middle. It is the most rural of the main islands — the highest percentage of Native Hawaiian residents, the south-shore fishponds still in use, and a pace that has nothing to prove.
Our Molokai rentals cluster around Kaunakakai and the west-end Kaluakoi area — cottages near the harbor and Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove, condos a short drive from Papohaku and Kepuhi Beach, and quiet east-end homes on the road to Halawa. Expect a kitchen, a lanai, and a rental car as standard; this is a stock-up-and-cook island, not a room-service one.
