Charlotte is North Carolina's largest city — 875,000 residents in the city proper and 2.7 million in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg metro, the second-largest U.S. banking center after New York City, and the only NFL/MLS dual-tenant stadium city in the Carolinas. Bank of America Stadium in Uptown hosts the Carolina Panthers (NFL since 1996, Cam Newton's Super Bowl 50 team) and Charlotte FC (MLS since 2022), the 19,000-seat Spectrum Center is home to the NBA Charlotte Hornets, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame on East Stonewall is the only NASCAR-sanctioned hall in the country. The LYNX Blue Line light rail (a 19-mile, 26-station line from I-485 South through South End to UNC Charlotte) opened the South End restaurant-and-brewery district that now anchors the city's millennial-and-young-professional travel scene.
