Big Sky sits at the south end of Montana's Madison Range, an hour north of West Yellowstone and an hour south of Bozeman. The town's three districts climb the canyon: Town Center on US-191 holds the post office, the Cinema, and Roxy's Market; Meadow Village above Town Center is the residential and Lone Mountain Ranch base; Mountain Village is the ski-base pedestrian zone at the bottom of Lone Mountain. Big Sky Resort's terrain — 5,850 acres after the Moonlight Basin and Spanish Peaks merger — fans out across Lone Mountain (11,166 ft summit) and the Spanish Peaks ridge to the south, with the 15-passenger Lone Peak Tram lifting from Powder Seeker to the Top Shack at the summit.
