The 1846 German-settler town in the Hill Country 75 miles west of Austin — Texas's wine country anchor with 60+ wineries on the US-290 corridor (Becker, Pedernales Cellars, Grape Creek, William Chris), the Nimitz-family National Museum of the Pacific War on Main Street, the granite dome of Enchanted Rock 18 miles north, and a downtown Hauptstrasse of preserved Sunday Houses, biergartens, and the Pioneer Museum.
Fredericksburg sits at the heart of the Texas Hill Country, 75 miles west of Austin and 70 miles north of San Antonio on US-290. Settled in 1846 by German immigrants under Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels's Adelsverein colonization society, the town's grid still preserves the original 1846 Hauptstrasse and the original Sunday Houses — small in-town cabins built by farm families for weekend church-and-market trips. Today, the 25-mile US-290 corridor between Fredericksburg and Stonewall is Texas Wine Country: 60+ wineries (Becker, Pedernales Cellars, Grape Creek, William Chris, Texas Hills, Hilmy Cellars, Fall Creek), more than any other Texas county. Eighteen miles north on RM-965, the 425-foot pink-granite dome of Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is the Hill Country's most-photographed landmark.
Our Fredericksburg inventory leans heavily into restored 1850s-1929 cottages and Sunday Houses in the historic district (Mistletoe House, Calmbach Cottage, Pullman Train Car, the 1929 Bell Estate), German-themed Hauptstrasse-walking-distance bungalows (Reizend Haus, Beverly Haus, Anchorage Haus), and a smaller cluster of country-acreage cabins on the surrounding ranch land (Pecan Farm, Knopp School Cabins, the Appian Way Tuscan Cottage). Most rentals are 1- to 2-bedroom couples-and-small-group units; the Hauptstrasse cottages typically run 1- or 2-night minimums year-round, with 3-night minimums on holiday weekends. Austin Bergstrom (AUS) is 90 miles east, 90-110 minutes; San Antonio International (SAT) is 70 miles south, 75-90 minutes.
