Athens sits 70 miles east of Atlanta on the rolling Piedmont, where the Middle Oconee and North Oconee rivers fork through the city. The 41,000-student University of Georgia anchors the south side of downtown — Sanford Stadium 'Between the Hedges,' the historic North Campus arch on Broad Street, and the State Botanical Garden of Georgia along the river. The Five Points neighborhood south of campus holds the locals' favorite restaurant strip (Five & Ten, The National, Mama's Boy at Five Points). Downtown Athens itself runs College Avenue and Clayton Street with the 40 Watt Club, the Georgia Theatre, the Athens Welcome Center, and the Saturday-morning farmers market at Bishop Park.
