Pine/Strawberry boasts A mild climate, fresh mountain air, fertile soil, and, of course, plenty of towering pine trees.
This small community that hugs the scenic Mogollon Rim between Payson and Camp Verde continues to thrive. Notable sights within the town include the historic post office, established in 1884, and the Pine-Strawberry Museum, which opened in 1979 and takes its name from Pine and its sister community of Strawberry. Featuring artifacts that focus on the prehistory and history of towns, this gem is a must-see during your visit.
Looking to get out of town for a bit? Nearby Bear Canyon Lake and Knoll Lake offer plenty of outdoor fun. Pitch a tent, cast a line for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, or just enjoying taking a boat out on the sparkling water.
Wrap your arms around one of the huge Ponderosa Pines that have been growing for hundreds of years in the Tonto National Forest Preserve that surrounds the quaint mountain town of Strawberry.
About 10 miles south of town examine another natural wonder, Tonto Natural Bridge – one of the world's only natural travertine bridges. The beauty doesn't stop there. This lovely town at the base of Arizona's famous Mogollon Rim also has seven lakes nearby. The fishing can't be beat!
Gold in the hills – discovered around 1875 – began the influx of settlers to the area. It was these early residents that gave Strawberry its colorful name, inspired by the wild strawberries that grew across the land. They also established the Strawberry Schoolhouse in 1885. It still stands today as the oldest schoolhouse in Arizona and is open for tours May through mid-October. Time your visit right to take part in the annual Pine-Strawberry Summer Fest, usually in early June. Small-town charm, beautiful scenery, cool mountain air, live music, crafts, and food fill the festival weekend.
This home can experience inclement weather in the winter months. A guest may need to utilize an all-wheel or front-wheel drive/high clearance vehicle to access the home, depending upon recent snowfall or rainfall. All efforts possible are provided to ensure homes are easily accessible, but we still recommend that guests purchase travel insurance if there are any worries about experiencing northern Arizona winter weather.
