Description
The city of Santa Fe was recognized recently with the National Geographic's “sense of place” award at the magazine’s World Legacy Awards in Berlin. The “sense of place” award — a particularly prestigious laurel, local officials say — is bestowed on an organization that enhances cultural authenticity and supports historic monuments, vernacular architecture, indigenous heritage and artistic traditions.
Like Santa Fe itself, Casa Guadalupe's 140-year-old structure resonates with its own "sense of place." This one-bedroom, single level historic adobe home has been meticulously restored with impeccable attention to detail and appreciation for old world charm and style. Wonderfully thick adobe walls provide a sense of permanency and groundedness, and a buffer from the outside world.
This home is located minutes west of the Plaza across from the fabulous Santa Fe School of Cooking. Casa Guadalupe is in the heart of the North Guadalupe District and is a short stroll away from major Santa Fe attractions: the Historic Plaza, museums, the Georgia O'Keeffe Gallery, and historic churches, such as Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral. Built in 1795, this church houses the oldest shrine to the Virgin Mary in the United States. Casa Guadalupe is also adjacent to the modern Railyard district, which features Santa Fe's much-loved Farmer's Market, multiple shops and galleries, and a small movie theater (The Jean Cocteau Cinema) owned by George R.R. Martin of Game of Thrones fame.
Upon entering the home, visitors take in the bright skylight, polished oak wood floors, exposed vigas, and sand-finished plaster walls. These traditional finishes encompass Santa Fe-style wood furniture which includes a large dining room table that accommodates up to four guests. For those who enjoy preparing the local cuisine or favorite foods from home while they travel, the compact, fully-equipped kitchen makes the preparation of meals fun and convenient.
The living room area features a traditional kiva fireplace to warm hands and hearts on chilly, Santa Fe nights, as well lush, leather sofas for cozying up with a book or welcoming extra overnight guests. Guests feel at home watching movies or TV on the flat screen HD TV and catching up with their social media or email with Casa Guadalupe's high-speed internet. Tasty meals can be savored outside with family and friends under blue New Mexico skies. A comfortable patio is conveniently equipped with a gas burning grill, table, and benches.
The bedroom contains a king-size bed with snug bedding and comforters; closets allow for easy storage of clothing and valuables; the warm and inviting bath allows for showers or long, hot soaks in the spacious tub.
Casa Guadalupe is pet-friendly (dogs only) with a non-refundable pet fee.
Please note: This property is located off of Guadalupe street, in between Pizzeria da Lino (a lovely, Italian restaurant) and Concrete Jungle (a locally owned smoke shop.) Look for a painted mural on the side of Concrete Jungle. Casa Guadalupe is in the center of activity, but is quiet and private, with a fenced area for added separation.
